TL;DR · Hardware Test Engineer

As a Hardware Test Engineer (Starlink), you will join a cross-functional team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to ensure satellite hardware can withstand the harsh environment of space while maintaining global communication. You will spearhead the development and deployment of automated electrical test systems covering high-speed digital communications, network and power systems integration, RF engineering, avionics, and failure investigation. Day-to-day responsibilities include defining test requirements, designing physical assets like test racks and PCBAs, and utilizing Python to interact with units under test and production data. You will work with tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers while navigating domains like thermal analysis and environmental testing. The role focuses on solving complex problems in satellite hardware reliability, ensuring all systems comply with safety standards like UL, NFPA, and IEC during the development of advanced broadband internet infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deploy automated electrical test systems for high-speed communications, power systems, and RF engineering.
  • Define and document technical requirements, coverage designs, and operational strategies for flight hardware testing.
  • Design and manufacture physical test assets including racks, panels, fixtures, and custom PCBAs.
  • Use Python to automate interactions between units under test, instrumentation, and production data systems.
  • Analyze on-orbit and production data to drive continuous improvements in hardware design.
  • Provide hands-on support for hardware during the manufacturing, integration, and flight phases.
  • Ensure all test systems and designs comply with industry safety standards such as UL, NFPA, and IEC.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • At least 1 year of experience in hardware development or electronics test engineering.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, C/C++, and TwinCAT.
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and electronic loads.
  • Expertise in RF characterization of components, circuits, PCBAs, antennas, and systems.
  • Understanding of environmental testing methods like HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, and TVAC.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
