TL;DR · Hardware Test Engineer (Starlink)

As a Hardware Test Engineer on Starlink, you will join a multidisciplinary team to ensure satellite hardware can withstand the rigors of space and maintain global communication. Your daily tasks include developing advanced automated electrical test systems across various technical domains such as high-speed digital communications and RF engineering. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to design and produce test assets like racks, panels, fixtures, and processes while utilizing Python for unit testing. Additionally, you’ll drive improvements by analyzing on-orbit and production data, ensuring compliance with safety standards (UL, NFPA, ANSI). This role requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, 1+ years of hardware development experience, and expertise in electronics reliability, RF testing, environmental testing, PLCs, and functional safety systems.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deploy advanced, automated electrical test systems for satellite hardware.
  • Design and produce test assets including racks, panels, fixtures, harnessing, and connectors.
  • Utilize software tools like Python to interact with units under test and collect data.
  • Analyze on-orbit and production data to drive continual improvements in design reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements (UL, NFPA, ANSI, IEC) for all systems.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics or related STEM field
  • 1+ years of hardware development or electronics test engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing
  • Experience with RF testing and characterization
  • Proficiency in Python and other programming languages (C/C++, TwinCAT)
  • Knowledge of environmental testing methods (HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, TVAC)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills for multidisciplinary team collaboration
