TL;DR · Hardware Security Engineer

The Hardware Security Engineer - Hyperscaler Security Hybrid joins the Hardware & Firmware Security Team within the Security & Trust Organization. This role focuses on ensuring next-generation platforms and custom hyperscaler hardware architectures adhere to rigorous security, trust, and resilience standards. You will analyze system-level hardware designs, schematics, and component datasheets to identify threat vectors and compliance gaps. Key responsibilities include translating complex standards like NIST SP 800-193, NSA CNSA 2.0, and the EU Cyber Resilience Act into practical engineering requirements. You will provide technical guidance to product teams and third-party vendors while authoring threat models and engineering specifications. Required expertise includes hardware design, root of trust, secure boot, cryptographic primitives, and experience with technologies such as SPDM, TCG DICE, OpenBMC, Caliptra, and OpenTitan.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate system-level hardware designs, schematics, and component datasheets to identify threat vectors and vulnerabilities.
  • Interpret and establish security requirements based on industry standards like NIST SP 800-193 and NSA CNSA 2.0.
  • Provide technical guidance and actionable security requirements to product teams, hardware engineers, and third-party vendors.
  • Author hardware security requirements, threat models, compliance white papers, and engineering specifications.
  • Manage multiple concurrent security evaluations and design reviews across diverse hardware programs.
  • Ensure next-generation platforms and custom Hyperscaler hardware architectures adhere to rigorous security and resilience standards.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 4+ years with a Master's, or 1+ year with a PhD.
  • Prior experience in hardware development, including interpreting schematics, block diagrams, component datasheets, and PCB designs.
  • Prior experience in hardware security fundamentals like Hardware Root of Trust, Secure Boot, and cryptographic primitives.
  • Experience crafting, implementing, or evaluating hardware-rooted attestation architectures and device identity mechanisms (preferred).
  • Experience with Hyperscaler and cloud platform architectures such as OCP, OpenBMC, Caliptra, OpenTitan, or OpenPRoT (preferred).
  • Experience implementing industry standard security IP or developing novel hardware security solutions (preferred).
  • Experience with hardware threat modeling or security analysis such as fault injection or side-channel analysis (preferred).
