As a GPU Performance Engineer, Platform Architecture, you will join the Platform Architecture GPU Modeling team to drive advanced exploration for next-generation GPU architectures in iPhone, iPad, and Mac products. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-performance C++ models of future GPUs, which involves coding and debugging performance and functional models while implementing modern hardware features like ray tracing, mesh shading, and machine learning for AI. Your daily work includes ensuring model accuracy through feature validation and correlation against other models and RTL. You will collaborate with architects, modeling engineers, compiler engineers, and software teams to assess the feasibility of new features and run performance experiments. Required skills include C++ coding, Python or Ruby scripting, and proficiency with data analysis tools such as Tableau, pandas, Excel, and matplotlib.

What you'll do

  • Develop and maintain high-performance C++ models of next-generation GPU architectures.
  • Code and debug performance and functional models of the GPU.
  • Implement modern hardware features including machine learning, ray tracing, and mesh shading.
  • Ensure model accuracy through feature validation and correlation against RTL and other models.
  • Analyze large datasets generated by models using various data analysis tools.
  • Conduct performance experiments to assess the feasibility of new hardware and software features.
  • Propose architectural changes based on analyzed results and experimental data.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or MS/PhD in a related field.
  • Experience writing and debugging C++ code.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Ruby.
  • 10+ years of experience modeling GPUs, CPUs, or similar architectures.
  • Understanding of GPU and CPU architectures.
  • Experience coding components like processing cores, texturing units, caches, and memory hierarchies.
  • Experience debugging performance issues and correlating multiple models.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Tableau, pandas, Excel, or matplotlib.
