TL;DR · GPU Compiler Engineer

As a GPU Compiler Engineer within the GPU Software organization, you will join a team of experts responsible for constructing and emitting high-performance machine instructions for Graphics and Compute workloads. You will work on an NVIDIA proprietary compiler backend written in C++ to design and develop new compiler passes and optimizations that ensure robust, supportable tools. Your daily responsibilities include collaborating with global hardware and application teams to oversee improvements and resolve technical problems across complex parallel SIMT architectures. The role requires proficiency in C++, software engineering principles, and experience in code generation. Candidates may also leverage knowledge of LLVM components like instruction scheduling, register allocation, TableGen, and Machine IR. This position focuses on the core challenge of developing compiler technology that supports functional languages and advanced deep-learning applications across various hardware architectures.

What you'll do

  • Understand, modify, and improve a proprietary GPU compiler backend written in C++.
  • Design and develop new compiler passes to produce high-performance machine instructions.
  • Create optimizations for graphics and compute workloads including CUDA, PTX, and OpenCL.
  • Develop robust and maintainable tools for complex parallel SIMT architectures.
  • Oversee improvements and resolve technical problems with global hardware and application teams.
  • Implement advanced compiler techniques such as instruction scheduling and register allocation.

What we're looking for

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of compiler code generation experience.
  • Excellent hands-on C++ programming skills.
  • Strong background in software engineering principles for robust and maintainable solutions.
  • Good communication and documentation skills with a self-motivated attitude.
  • M.S./PhD. with significant compiler related project or thesis work (preferred).
  • Background in LLVM code generation including instruction scheduling, software pipelining, register allocation, GlobalISel, TableGen, LLVM IR, and Machine IR (preferred).
  • Experience in developing CUDA, DirectX, OpenGL/Vulkan applications (preferred).
