The GDMS Senior AI Governance & Risk Specialist role is a critical position within the Agentic AI Governance team at GD Mission Systems, responsible for ensuring that one of the largest enterprise AI deployments in the defense industry remains safe, accountable, and trusted. This senior specialist will conduct comprehensive risk assessments, governance audits, and evaluations to ensure compliance with government and corporate regulations across various layers including data governance, security controls, and model assurance. They will work closely with Legal, Privacy, Cybersecurity, and IT teams to develop self-service governance tools and maintain an enterprise AI use inventory. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience with agentic AI systems and a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks such as NIST AI RMF and the EU AI Act, alongside strong analytical and communication skills to translate complex risk assessments into actionable insights for senior management.
Conduct comprehensive AI risk assessments and governance audits for agentic applications.
Evaluate adherence to government and corporate AI policies across six layers of governance.
Apply tiered governance frameworks to ensure low-risk use cases clear quickly while high-risk ones receive scrutiny.
Maintain the enterprise AI use inventory, control framework, and support dashboard reporting.
Assess risks specific to agentic AI systems including tool-calling behavior and memory retrieval systems.
Translate regulatory requirements into actionable internal controls without creating bureaucratic drag.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 8 years of relevant experience in AI governance or risk management.
Hands-on experience using agentic tools like Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI, Anthropic, and familiarity with open-source AI ecosystems.
Ability to conduct comprehensive AI risk assessments and governance audits against emerging regulations for generative AI and LLM-based applications.
Strong understanding of NIST AI RMF, OMB AI guidance, DoD Responsible AI principles, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
Excellent analytical skills and ability to translate complex AI risk and governance topics into clear, actionable information for senior management.
Experience in evaluating and documenting human-in-the-loop requirements and escalation thresholds based on risk level and mission context.
Ability to coordinate with Legal, Privacy, Cybersecurity, and IT leadership to ensure compliance with evolving domestic and international AI regulations.
