The Flight Dynamics Engineer - Tech Spec I joins the Flight Sciences team to develop next-generation products by ensuring aircraft maneuverability, handling qualities, and controllability during normal operations and failures. This role involves planning and executing wind tunnel test campaigns, building high-fidelity aerodynamic simulation models using CFD and other data sources, and supporting flight test campaigns through real-time telemetry monitoring and post-flight evaluation. The engineer will update models using parameter identification techniques, conduct static and time-history analyses, and support certification activities like Functional Hazard Assessments. Required skills include experience with 14 CFR Part 23 or 25 programs, strong coding and software development practices, and technical writing. Preferred expertise includes fly-by-wire control law development, machine learning, large-scale data analysis, and assessments for Handling Qualities Ratings and Pilot Induced Oscillation within the aviation domain.
Plan, execute, and reduce data for wind tunnel test campaigns.
Build and refine high-fidelity aerodynamic simulation models using CFD and other data sources.
Support flight test campaigns through pre-test planning, real-time telemetry monitoring, and post-flight evaluation.
Update and validate aerodynamic models using flight data and parameter identification techniques.
Develop and expand the internal simulation framework and analysis tools.
Conduct static and time-history-based analyses to ensure aircraft maneuverability and handling qualities.
Perform Functional Hazard Assessment analysis and other related certification activities.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
In a specific technical discipline or broad engineering experience with a bachelor's degree.
Experience with 14 CFR Part 23 or Part 25 certification programs.
Experience tuning aerodynamic models using wind tunnel, CFD, and flight test data.
Strong coding skills and software development practices.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Advanced degree in an engineering-related field (preferred).
Experience with parameter/system identification, flight test operations, aircraft simulation, HQR/PIO assessments, fly-by-wire control law development, or machine learning (preferred).
