The Stability & Control/Flight Dynamics Engineer II joins the Flight Sciences team to develop next-generation products by ensuring aircraft maneuverability, handling qualities, and controllability during normal operations and failures. This role involves creating high-fidelity aerodynamic simulation models, performing static and time history analyses, and conducting laboratory simulation evaluations. The engineer will also manage wind tunnel test data, perform Functional Hazard Assessment analysis, and execute System Design Assurance activities for compliance with ARP4754A. Key technical responsibilities include fly-by-wire control law development, signal filtering, system identification, and frequency domain analysis. Candidates must possess expertise in aircraft stability and control derivatives, Handling Qualities Ratings, and Pilot Induced Oscillation assessments. The role addresses critical flight dynamics problems within the aviation sector, specifically focusing on aerodynamic model validation and ensuring vehicle performance meets rigorous certification standards like 14 CFR Part 23 or 25.
Develop requirements to ensure airplane maneuverability, handling qualities, and controllability during normal operations and failures.
Create and document high-fidelity aerodynamic simulation models for flight dynamics analysis.
Apply Handling Qualities criteria to the design of aircraft control systems.
Support the design and analysis of augmented airplane Control Law development.
Conduct static and time history based analyses to verify that design requirements are met.
Analyze and document results from laboratory simulation evaluations and wind tunnel test campaigns.
Perform in-depth analysis of flight test data to validate aerodynamic models and vehicle performance.
Execute System Design Assurance activities and testing for compliance with ARP4754A and certification standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related curriculum is required.
18 months of related engineering experience is required.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Understanding of aircraft stability and control derivatives (preferred).
Experience with Handling Qualities Ratings (HQR) and Pilot Induced Oscillation (PIO) assessments (preferred).
Fly-by-wire control law development experience (preferred).
Experience with 14 CFR Part 23, Part 25, or EASA CS 25 certification (preferred).
Flight test experience and skills in time-based simulation, frequency domain analysis, signal filtering, system identification, or control system analysis (preferred).
