TL;DR · Facilities Electrical Engineer

The Facilities Electrical Engineer joins the Facilities team to manage the infrastructure supporting advanced manufacturing and testing operations. This role serves as the subject matter expert for campus electrical systems, spanning from high-voltage utility transmission lines and substations down to facility-level distribution. Key responsibilities include overseeing the reliability of switchgear, transformers, and emergency backup systems like generators and UPS; developing predictive maintenance programs involving infrared thermography and relay testing; and providing engineering support for new construction projects. The candidate will perform power quality investigations, conduct load studies, and manage NFPA 70E compliance and arc flash studies. Required skills include experience with NETA standards, reading single-line diagrams, and utilizing power analysis software like SKM or ETAP. The role ensures operational continuity within a high-availability industrial environment involving complex electrical infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Oversee the operation, reliability, and maintenance of high-voltage substations and medium-voltage distribution systems.
  • Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical assets like transformers and emergency backup systems.
  • Provide engineering support and commissioning for new construction projects to ensure compliance with utility requirements and codes.
  • Lead the startup and acceptance testing of critical electrical equipment including switchgear, generators, and UPS systems.
  • Conduct power quality investigations, load studies, and capacity planning to support manufacturing and testing operations.
  • Manage NFPA 70E compliance programs, arc flash studies, and Lockout/Tagout procedures for campus safety.
  • Coordinate with utility providers regarding high-voltage transmission, grid reliability, and planned maintenance outages.
  • Manage external contractors and engineering consultants during capital improvement projects and scheduled maintenance windows.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical engineering, facilities engineering, or power systems commissioning.
  • Experience working with medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical distribution and substation equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical maintenance practices, NETA testing standards, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Familiarity with the construction lifecycle including design review, submittals, RFIs, and on-site support.
  • Demonstrated experience commissioning critical electrical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, and ATS.
  • Thorough knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, schematic drawings, and protective relay settings.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to access to export-controlled information or facilities.
