The Facilities Mechanical Engineer joins the Facilities team to manage and optimize critical infrastructure for advanced manufacturing and testing operations at the Arsenal 1 campus. This role serves as a subject matter expert for mechanical systems including central utility plants, industrial piping, HVAC units, compressed air, and process cooling/heating systems. The engineer will bridge design and operations by overseeing construction projects, leading commissioning efforts, managing preventive maintenance programs, and performing heating and cooling load studies. Key technical requirements include proficiency in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS). Candidates must be able to interpret P&IDs and blueprints while ensuring compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and OSHA standards. The role involves managing contractors and coordinating utility services to ensure the reliability of infrastructure supporting complex manufacturing environments and specialized industrial processes.
Oversee the operation, reliability, and maintenance of campus mechanical infrastructure including central utility plants, HVAC systems, and industrial piping.
Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical assets like chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
Provide engineering review and on-site support for construction projects to ensure installations meet codes and design intent.
Lead the commissioning, startup, test and balance, and acceptance testing of mechanical equipment and Building Automation Systems.
Conduct heating/cooling load studies and utility capacity planning to support manufacturing and testing operations.
Ensure compliance with safety standards regarding refrigerant, pressure systems, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
Optimize Building Automation Systems sequences to improve system resilience and operational efficiency.
Manage external contractors and consultants during maintenance turnarounds and capital improvement projects.
What we're looking for
Experience in mechanical engineering, facilities engineering, or building systems commissioning.
Experience operating and troubleshooting central utility plants, industrial HVAC systems, compressed air, and process piping.
Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and mechanical maintenance practices.
Familiarity with the construction lifecycle including design reviews, submittals, RFIs, and field engineering.
Demonstrated experience commissioning critical mechanical systems, air/hydronic balancing, and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).
Thorough knowledge of IMC, IPC, ASHRAE standards, ASME codes, and OSHA regulations.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, ductwork layouts, and control Sequences of Operation.
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to export-controlled information or facilities.
