TL;DR · Environmental Safety and Health Manager, Maritime Division

The Environmental Safety and Health Manager, Maritime Division serves as the strategic link between the Maritime Division and the broader EHS organization. This role focuses on embedding safety and risk management into the earliest stages of program development, including concept design, proposal activities, and preliminary design reviews. The manager will partner with engineering, program management, and technical leadership to identify risks before design decisions are finalized, ensuring safer manufacturing processes and facility operations. Key responsibilities include conducting structured hazard analyses, developing mitigation strategies, and serving as the primary EHS liaison for the division. Candidates must possess a degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. Required skills include experience in complex industrial environments like maritime or defense, ability to influence multidisciplinary teams, and expertise in translating technical risk into actionable business recommendations.

What you'll do

  • Identify EHS risks during the early stages of program development, including concept design and proposal activities.
  • Partner with engineering and program management teams to integrate safety considerations into manufacturing processes and facility layouts.
  • Lead structured EHS risk assessments for conceptual and developmental programs to eliminate hazards through design.
  • Serve as the primary EHS liaison to the Maritime Division to align safety strategies with operational goals.
  • Translate technical risks into actionable business and engineering recommendations for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and regulatory developments relevant to maritime products and operations.
  • Promote a culture of proactive risk management rather than reactive compliance across the division.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Safety/Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Progressive EHS experience in engineering, manufacturing, maritime, defense, aerospace, or other complex industrial environments.
  • Experience conducting hazard analyses or risk assessments integrated with engineering and program decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence multidisciplinary teams without direct authority.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to translate technical risk into actionable business and engineering recommendations.
  • Preferred experience in maritime, shipbuilding, or naval engineering/operations environments.
  • Preferred experience supporting new manufacturing or facility buildout.
