As a STEM Sample Preparation Technician at the SEM Lab in Tualatin, you will join a dedicated team focused on advancing microscopy services to support engineering and development initiatives. Your primary responsibility involves preparing samples for Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) using ThermoFisher Helios systems, including FIB-SEM analysis and EDS testing. Day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting system-level issues, conducting operational tests, and collaborating with engineers on prototype designs. Ideal candidates have 0-2 years of experience in a physical science field or equivalent training, along with knowledge of dual beam FIB/SEM tools and the physics involved in their operation, such as vacuum systems and ion sputtering behavior. This role requires shift work on nights from Sunday to Tuesday and every other Wednesday, from 5 PM to 5 AM.

What you'll do
Prepare STEM samples using FEI/ThermoFisher Helios dual beam FIB-SEM tools.
Troubleshoot system-level issues in electrical and mechanical systems during testing.
Inspect materials for surface defects using precision measuring instruments and microscopes.
Conduct operational testing to isolate faults and determine methods to remedy malfunctions.
Collaborate with engineers to design, test, and troubleshoot prototypes and models.
What we're looking for
Experience operating dual beam FIB/SEM tools, especially in thin lamella preparation.
Knowledge of vacuum systems, voltage/current effects, and ion sputtering behavior.
0-2 years experience with a BS degree in physical science or equivalent training.
Ability to perform testing, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on complex systems.
Use diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes and specialized test apparatus effectively.
Collaborate with engineers in designing, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes.
