TL;DR · Electrical Power Generation Engineer, Substation, MV & LV power

The Electrical Power Generation Engineer (Substation, MV & LV power) provides technical leadership for the design, delivery, commissioning, and operational readiness of mission-critical data center power infrastructure. Working within the Technology Operations team, this individual contributor serves as a subject-matter expert from project inception through final handover. Key responsibilities include defining electrical design criteria, leading technical reviews for grid substations, and designing MV and LV distribution systems. The role involves performing short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, and harmonic studies while managing utility-interconnection requirements. Required skills include proficiency with transformers, switchgear, protective relays, UPS systems, and ATS equipment. The engineer ensures infrastructure reliability and safety by developing operating procedures, performing root-cause analysis of electrical faults, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to maintain high availability for data center operations.

What you'll do

  • Define electrical design criteria for system architecture, capacity, redundancy, and operational-readiness requirements.
  • Lead technical reviews for grid substations, utility interconnections, transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
  • Design and review MV and LV electrical distribution systems including UPS interfaces and automatic transfer switches.
  • Perform and review short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, harmonic, and protective-device coordination studies.
  • Develop and support commissioning plans for substation energization, relay testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of electrical faults, protective trips, and recurring operational issues.
  • Develop electrical operating procedures, maintenance strategies, and emergency-response plans.
  • Ensure complete turnover of as-built drawings, relay settings, test reports, and equipment manuals.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience with utility substations, grid interconnection, MV and LV electrical distribution systems, and mission-critical or industrial power infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of MV switchgear, LV switchboards, transformers, protective relays, generators, paralleling switchgear, UPS systems, ATS equipment, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Experience performing or reviewing short-circuit, load-flow, arc-flash, grounding, harmonic, and protection-coordination studies.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering electrical infrastructure from design through construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical one-line diagrams, control schematics, protection diagrams, equipment specifications, and commissioning procedures.
  • Strong cross-functional coordination, troubleshooting, technical writing, vendor-management, and communication skills.
  • Experience with hyperscale or enterprise data centers, microgrids, utility-scale power systems, or high-voltage substations (preferred).
