Distinguished Engineer, Data Foundation

What you'll do

• Define and evangelize the multi-year technical strategy for Intuit's data platform and semantic infrastructure.
• Architect a scalable data substrate including ingestion, streaming, lakehouse design, and privacy-by-design controls.
• Design a semantic layer featuring canonical entity models, ontologies, and knowledge graphs to power AI systems.
• Resolve complex, cross-cutting technical problems that span multiple teams or organizational boundaries.
• Establish and enforce company-wide technical standards, reference architectures, and build-vs-buy decisions.
• Translate business and regulatory requirements into durable technical designs in partnership with cross-functional leadership.
• Mentor Staff and Principal engineers to improve the technical capabilities of the data organization.
• Identify and mitigate infrastructure risks related to future scale, new regulations, and AI workloads.

What we're looking for

• 15+ years of experience building large-scale data platforms at scale with petabyte-class data and strict regulatory requirements.
• Deep expertise in the modern data stack including distributed storage, streaming, orchestration, and cloud data services (AWS or GCP).
• Demonstrated experience designing semantic layers, knowledge graphs, ontologies, and retrieval infrastructure for ML/LLM systems.
• Proven track record of setting technical direction at a company scale as a Distinguished Engineer, Fellow, or Principal Architect.
• Fluency in translating data privacy and governance requirements into architectural designs.
• Strong understanding of how modern AI systems like RAG and agentic workflows depend on well-modeled, governed data.
• Experience designing distributed data and query systems with runtime optimizations.
• Exceptional communication skills to engage both technical staff engineers and senior executive leadership.
