Distinguished Engineer, Data Foundation

What you'll do

• Define and evangelize the multi-year technical strategy for the company-wide data platform and semantic infrastructure.
• Architect the next-generation data substrate for ingestion, streaming, lakehouse design, and privacy-by-design controls.
• Design the semantic layer including canonical entity models, ontologies, knowledge graphs, and retrieval services for AI.
• Resolve the hardest cross-cutting technical problems that stall across team, organization, or platform boundaries.
• Set and enforce technical standards, reference architectures, and build-vs-buy decisions for data infrastructure.
• Translate business and regulatory requirements into durable technical designs with product, data science, and legal leadership.
• Mentor Staff and Principal engineers and help build the technical career ladder for senior individual contributors.
• Identify and drive the roadmap for infrastructure scaling to meet future AI workloads and regulatory requirements.

What we're looking for

• 15+ years of experience building large-scale data platforms for systems with tens of millions of users and petabyte-class data.
• Deep hands-on expertise in distributed storage, compute, streaming, orchestration, data governance, and cloud data services (AWS or GCP).
• Demonstrated experience designing semantic layers, including metrics layers, ontologies, knowledge graphs, and retrieval infrastructure for ML/LLM systems.
• Proven record of setting technical direction at company scale as a Distinguished Engineer, Fellow, Principal Architect, or equivalent.
• Fluency in translating data privacy and governance requirements (e.g., GDPR/CCPA) into technical architecture.
• Experience designing agentic interfaces and using deep learning approaches to handle large or sparse data problems.
• Experience in designing and building distributed data and query systems with runtime optimizations.
• Experience in fintech, tax, accounting, or highly regulated domains (preferred).
