The Distinguished Engineer – Data Center Network Architecture & Engineering serves as the highest technical authority for GEICO's data center networking ecosystem. This role leads the architecture and engineering strategy for the Private Cloud, Platform Engineering, AI/ML, and enterprise application environments. You will design and evolve large-scale Layer 3 Clos fabrics, software-defined networking platforms, and automated provisioning systems. Key responsibilities include driving the transformation to API-driven, infrastructure-as-code platforms and mentoring senior engineers. Required expertise includes BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, ECMP, MPLS, and OSPF, alongside experience with OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Linux systems. You will utilize Go, Python, C/C++, or Rust to build automation frameworks. The role solves complex problems regarding hyperscale-inspired network reliability, security, and scalability across on-premises and hybrid cloud infrastructures.
Define the long-term architectural vision and technical roadmap for GEICO's data center network infrastructure.
Design and evolve large-scale Layer 3 Clos fabrics supporting virtualization, containers, and bare metal environments.
Build automated network provisioning and lifecycle management platforms using APIs, Infrastructure-as-Code, and GitOps.
Architect integrated networking solutions for OpenStack-based private clouds, Kubernetes platforms, and AI/ML infrastructure.
Establish observability standards using telemetry and analytics to improve network performance and operational efficiency.
Partner with cybersecurity teams to implement Zero Trust architectures and cloud-native security controls.
Serve as the senior technical authority by mentoring senior engineers and leading architecture reviews.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to guide strategic investments in network modernization.
What we're looking for
Deep expertise in modern data center networking architectures and large-scale network design.
Advanced understanding of Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols including BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, ECMP, MPLS, and OSPF.
Experience designing and operating leaf-spine and Clos network fabrics.
Strong understanding of software-defined networking architectures and network virtualization technologies.
Experience designing networking solutions for private, hybrid, and public cloud environments.
Strong software development skills in Go, Python, C/C++, Rust, or Java.
Experience building automation platforms, APIs, and infrastructure services using Linux system architecture and distributed systems.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
15+ years of networking, infrastructure, or cloud engineering experience (preferred).
10+ years designing enterprise or hyperscale network architectures (preferred).
Advanced degree or relevant industry certifications (preferred).
