The Director, Platform Software Engineering leads teams responsible for core Oracle Kubernetes Engine platform capabilities. This role involves managing engineering managers and senior technical leaders to set technical direction and own delivery for a highly available, globally distributed cloud service. You will advance Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, orchestration, control plane reliability, and scalability while integrating with OCI infrastructure. Key responsibilities include guiding architecture for distributed systems, managing incident response, and driving automation for fleet health. You will utilize Go, Java, Linux, and networking knowledge to support demanding AI and accelerated computing workloads. The role requires deep Kubernetes expertise, distributed systems fundamentals, and experience with cloud infrastructure like OCI, AWS, or Azure. You will also guide the adoption of responsible AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices to improve productivity and production quality.
Lead, hire, and develop engineering managers and software engineers to build leadership capacity and a culture of technical excellence.
Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for core OKE platform capabilities.
Own delivery across multiple teams by managing prioritization, staffing, dependencies, and risk management.
Guide architecture and design for distributed systems that manage Kubernetes clusters across OCI regions.
Provide technical leadership for Kubernetes control planes, APIs, scheduling, and cluster lifecycle management.
Own service health and operational outcomes including availability, capacity, performance, and incident response.
Establish rigorous standards for design reviews, testing, observability, and production readiness.
Drive automation to improve fleet health, accelerate diagnosis, and reduce manual operations.
What we're looking for
Must have 10+ years of experience.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Must have extensive experience designing, building, and operating production software, including cloud infrastructure or distributed platform services.
Must have demonstrated success leading multiple engineering teams, managing engineering managers, and developing technical leaders.
Must have deep Kubernetes expertise including control plane architecture, cluster lifecycle, networking, storage, and scalability.
Must have strong distributed systems fundamentals including availability, consistency, fault tolerance, and performance.
Must have hands-on cloud infrastructure experience with OCI, AWS, Azure, GCP, or a comparable large-scale environment.
Must have a software development background with the ability to guide design and implementation in Go and Java.
