Director, Mainframe CICS/MVS Performance and Capacity leads the Mainframe Capacity and Performance team in managing large-scale IBM z Systems infrastructure. This role involves performing capacity modeling, performance analysis, system configuration tuning, and monitoring for critical online and batch applications. The candidate will analyze CICS transaction behavior, MVS/zOS subsystem configurations, WLM policies, and storage considerations to ensure production resiliency and cost efficiency. Day-to-day tasks include investigating high-severity incidents, conducting stress tests, and developing forecasting models for workload growth. Technical requirements include proficiency with SMF, RMF, SYSVIEW, IntelliMagic, OMEGAMEN, Strobe/iStrobe, Broadcom tools, Grafana, Power BI, SQL, Python, R, JCL, and REXX. The role addresses the complex challenge of balancing customer experience with infrastructure costs while managing modernization initiatives like CICS-to-cloud transitions and multi-tier application integration across DB2, MQ, and WAS environments.
Lead CICS and MVS/zOS performance and capacity analysis for production environments and large-scale business events.
Analyze transaction, program, and infrastructure behavior to identify bottlenecks, response-time drivers, and resiliency risks.
Evaluate MVS/zOS subsystem configurations including WLM policies, LPAR settings, and I/O path behaviors.
Develop forecasting models that link business KPIs to CPU consumption, capacity needs, and modernization activities.
Lead production incident analysis and problem management for high-severity CICS/MVS performance and resiliency events.
Translate complex technical findings into concise reports and actionable recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders.
Provide technical governance for major initiatives such as z/OS upgrades, migrations, and cloud integration projects.
What we're looking for
Must have technology experience in IBM z/OS, CICS, MVS performance, capacity planning, systems programming, or infrastructure engineering.
Must possess deep expertise in CICS transaction processing, MVS/zOS subsystem configuration (WLM, PR/SM, LPAR), and hardware interactions like DASD/FICON.
Must be able to analyze performance data using tools such as SMF, RMF, SYSVIEW, IntelliMagic, OMEGAMEN, Strobe, Grafana, Power BI, SQL, Python, or R.
Must have experience in high-volume transaction processing or mission-critical enterprise environments (preferred).
Must be able to translate complex technical findings into clear business recommendations for senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
Must demonstrate ability to lead cross-functional teams through incident management, capacity governance, and vendor engagement.
Experience with mainframe application ecosystems including DB2, MQ, WAS, VSAM, and cloud-to-mainframe integration is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or Engineering is preferred.
