The Director, GMP AI Engineering leads the AI function for the Industrial Operations and Product Supply organization. This role involves owning the AI roadmap, managing use-case intake, and prioritizing projects to deliver measurable value. Key responsibilities include operating AI governance within a GMP environment, maintaining policies for computer system classification, validation procedures, and data integrity. The leader must sustain audit and inspection readiness while delivering end-to-end AI use cases and leading education and enablement programs for diverse audiences. Required skills include experience with language models, machine learning, and intelligent automation, alongside knowledge of Responsible AI principles and model risk. The position requires a background in engineering or science and expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing or similarly regulated environments to solve complex operational and manufacturing challenges.
Own and execute the IOPS AI roadmap including use-case intake, prioritization, and value measurement.
Operate and evolve AI governance within a GMP environment, including policy maintenance and data integrity.
Sustain audit and inspection readiness for AI systems and governance processes.
Deliver IOPS-specific AI use cases end-to-end from business-need translation through deployment and adoption.
Lead AI education and enablement programs, including fluency curricula and advocate networks across the business.
Partner with the enterprise AI organization to adapt corporate platforms and standards for GMP use.
Translate AI strategy, risk, and value clearly to senior leadership across the organization.
Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing multidisciplinary team of AI engineers and specialists.
What we're looking for
BS/BA in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
10+ years of industry experience for Associate Director level.
12+ years of industry experience for Director level.
Proven experience leading applied AI programs across governance, delivery, and education in a regulated environment.
Direct experience operating AI or computerized systems in a GMP/GxP environment, including validation and data integrity; pharmaceutical manufacturing strongly preferred.
Track record of delivering AI and intelligent automation use cases with measurable business value in manufacturing or operations settings.
Experience building education, fluency, or enablement programs and champion networks that scale adoption.
Working fluency with language models, machine learning, and intelligent automation with sufficient technical depth to lead engineers.
Familiarity with Responsible AI principles; experience with model risk, model credibility, or AI validation and assurance frameworks a plus (preferred).
