Director, Data and AI Governance serves as the accountable governance representative for assigned business functions, ensuring data and artificial intelligence activities are managed responsibly and in compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. The role involves reviewing initiatives for privacy, security, and model risks while providing risk-based guidance to stakeholders and executives. Key responsibilities include validating controls, managing record quality for systems and models, and designing AI-enabled stewardship agents to automate governance activities. The position requires expertise in data lifecycle concepts, risk management, and the development of agentic workflows with human oversight. Candidates must possess skills in translating complex technical requirements into practical guidance and experience with machine learning, predictive AI, generative AI, and agentic AI solutions. This role addresses the critical challenge of integrating automated capabilities into governance processes while maintaining high standards for data quality and compliance.
Serve as the primary governance representative for assigned business functions regarding data and AI activities.
Review data and AI initiatives for compliance with privacy, security, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Provide risk-based guidance to project owners and advise executives on trade-offs and necessary controls.
Ensure high-quality records for systems, models, and use cases including metadata, lineage, and access controls.
Validate that required controls are implemented effectively and coordinate the remediation of identified gaps.
Design and improve AI-enabled stewardship agents to automate and augment governance activities.
Standardize governance inputs, taxonomies, and decision criteria to enable scalable, automated workflows.
Build organizational readiness through training, coaching, and proactive engagement with stakeholders on policy updates.
What we're looking for
10 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or 8 years with an advanced degree, or 3 years with a PhD.
Relevant experience in data governance, AI governance, risk management, privacy, compliance, cybersecurity, model risk, or technology governance (preferred).
Working knowledge of data and AI lifecycle concepts and associated governance risks (preferred).
Experience interpreting policies, standards, controls, or regulatory requirements and coordinating remediation (preferred).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to translate technical requirements for executive audiences (preferred).
Hands-on experience governing machine learning, predictive AI, generative AI, or agentic AI solutions (preferred).
Familiarity with data inventories, model inventories, governance workflow tools, risk systems, or data catalogs (preferred).
Relevant professional certification in data governance, privacy, risk, security, compliance, audit, or AI governance (preferred).
