Data Center Facilities: Assess, Engineer & Design Manager
As a member of the infrastructure team, you will lead data center facilities assessments, engineering designs, and rationalization programs for large enterprise clients. This hands-on technical role involves evaluating power infrastructure, cooling systems, white-space utilization, and cabling standards to create consolidation plans, exit strategies, and sustainability roadmaps. You will design power solutions including UPS topologies and PDU configurations, while developing white-space layouts and structured cabling designs following TIA-942/EN 50600 standards. Key responsibilities include managing decommissioning activities, calculating PUE metrics, and producing technical documentation for executive audiences. You will utilize tools like AutoCAD or Revit and platforms such as Nlyte or Vertiv to manage assets. The role bridges the physical and IT infrastructure worlds, solving complex problems regarding facility condition, energy efficiency, and large-scale migration requirements within high-density compute environments.
Conduct comprehensive data center assessments of power infrastructure, cooling systems, white-space utilization, and cabling standards.
Design and engineer power and cooling solutions including UPS topology, PDU configuration, and airflow management for new builds or expansions.
Create detailed white-space and cabling designs featuring rack layouts, pathway plans, and capacity models to optimize usable space.
Lead consolidation and exit programs by assessing workload footprints, sequencing decommissioning activities, and managing equipment disposition.
Develop sustainability roadmaps by analyzing PUE metrics, carbon footprints, and energy efficiency improvements for client facilities.
Produce technical documentation including assessment reports, engineering design packages, and as-built records for both technical and executive audiences.
Coordinate with IT infrastructure teams to ensure physical facility designs align with server, network, and storage deployment plans.
What we're looking for
Minimum 7+ years of experience in data centre facilities engineering, design, or operations across power, cooling, white-space, and cabling disciplines.
Minimum 5+ years of experience conducting data centre facility assessments and producing engineering design packages.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in data centre consolidation, exit, or migration programmes.
Minimum 2+ years of experience with data centre sustainability metrics including PUE measurement and energy efficiency.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years work experience); if Associate’s Degree, minimum 6 years work experience required.
Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) or equivalent data centre facilities design accreditation (preferred).
Engineering background in electrical, mechanical, or building services (preferred).
Experience with CAD tools or DCIM platforms and sector experience in financial services, colocation, or public sector (preferred).
