Associate Director, Data Semantic Governance serves as the critical bridge between business stakeholders and IT partners to shape the strategic direction of how enterprise data is governed and leveraged. This role involves owning governance standards for the semantic and logical data landscape, ensuring that information remains consistent, interoperable, and AI-ready. Key responsibilities include designing semantic governance processes, defining ontology mappings, standardizing business glossaries, and establishing data quality rules and monitoring protocols. The successful candidate will utilize expertise in metadata management, master data management, and data lineage to drive compliance-by-design across the ecosystem. Required technical skills include proficiency in SQL for data profiling and experience with platforms such as Alation, Collibra, Reltio, Informatica, Snowflake, AWS, and Azure. The role addresses the challenge of creating a trusted, scalable foundation for enterprise data within the pharmaceutical industry.
Define and manage the governance standards for the enterprise semantic and logical data landscape.
Standardize business glossaries, terminology, metric definitions, and canonical data models across the organization.
Develop and implement standardized templates to ensure consistency and scalability for AI agents.
Establish data quality rules, anomaly detection protocols, and monitoring systems to ensure data reliability.
Oversee the cataloging, sensitivity classification, and lineage tracking of all enterprise data assets.
Act as the primary liaison between business units and IT teams to align data strategy with commercial goals.
Influence senior stakeholders by communicating how data governance drives enterprise value and investment decisions.
Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies for semantic modeling, metadata management, and data governance.
What we're looking for
A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in information systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
7+ years of progressive experience in data governance, business data architecture, or data management is required.
Deep expertise with data governance and cataloging platforms (e.g., Alation, Collibra) and Master Data Management platforms (e.g., Reltio, Informatica) is required.
Advanced knowledge of conceptual and logical data modeling, business glossaries, data lineage, and semantic layer design is required.
Strong proficiency in SQL for data profiling, querying, and quality assessment is required.
Solid understanding of cloud data ecosystems (Snowflake, AWS, Azure) is required.
Proven ability to author enterprise data standards and communicate complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders is required.
Prior experience in the Pharma/Life Sciences industry is preferred.
