Associate Director, Data Semantic Governance serves as the critical bridge between business stakeholders and IT partners to shape the strategic direction of enterprise data governance. This role is responsible for establishing standards for the semantic and logical data landscape, ensuring that information remains consistent, interoperable, and AI-ready. Key responsibilities include designing semantic governance processes, defining ontology mappings, standardizing business glossaries, and managing metadata, master data management, and data quality rules. The successful candidate will utilize tools such as Alation, Collibra, Reltio, or Informatica while leveraging SQL and knowledge of Snowflake, AWS, and Azure environments. The role focuses on solving complex problems regarding data lineage, sense-making for AI agents, and ensuring compliance-by-design within a pharmaceutical context to create a trusted foundation for enterprise-wide analytics and strategic decision-making across various business units.
Define and manage the governance standards for the enterprise semantic and logical data landscape.
Standardize business glossaries, terminology, metric definitions, and canonical data models across the organization.
Develop and implement standardized templates for AI agents to ensure consistency and scalability.
Establish and evolve enterprise data governance frameworks to ensure compliance and data integrity.
Define and operationalize business-driven data quality rules, anomaly detection, and monitoring protocols.
Oversee the cataloging, sensitivity classification, and lineage tracking of all corporate data assets.
Represent the data governance function in executive forums to align technical capabilities with business strategy.
Manage relationships with vendors and partners to support enterprise data governance initiatives and investment decisions.
What we're looking for
A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in information systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field is required.
7+ years of progressive experience in data governance, business data architecture, or data management is required.
Deep expertise with data governance and cataloging platforms (e.g., Alation, Collibra) and Master Data Management (MDM) platforms (e.g., Reltio, Informatica) is required.
Advanced knowledge of conceptual and logical data modeling, business glossaries, data lineage, and semantic layer design is required.
Strong proficiency in SQL for data profiling, querying, and quality assessment is required.
Solid understanding of cloud data ecosystems (Snowflake, AWS, Azure) is required.
Proven ability to author enterprise data standards and communicate complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders is required.
Prior experience in the Pharma/Life Sciences industry is preferred.
