AI Scientist — Commerce Labs joins the Experience Commerce Labs team to design, prototype, and ship machine learning systems powering agentic commerce products. This role involves building shopper agents to assist customers, merchant agents to automate storefront management, and smart infrastructure for bot detection and order management. The candidate will conduct end-to-end applied research experiments, moving from problem framing and data analysis to model training and evaluation while collaborating with engineering teams to integrate features into the Commerce Cloud platform. Required skills include proficiency in Python and standard ML tools like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, alongside a strong foundation in reinforcement learning, deep learning, optimization, causal inference, or operations research. The work focuses on developing autonomous systems that learn from real-world interactions within large-scale e-commerce environments to solve complex merchant and consumer problems.
Design, prototype, and ship machine learning systems that power agentic commerce products.
Build shopper agents to help customers find products across Commerce Cloud storefronts.
Develop merchant agents to automate retail tasks like merchandising and promotions.
Create smart infrastructure for automated bot detection and order management at scale.
Execute end-to-end research experiments including problem framing, data analysis, and model evaluation.
Build hands-on proofs of concept and harden them for production use in Commerce Cloud.
Translate research results into shipped features by collaborating with engineering and product teams.
Monitor ML and AI research trends to evaluate their applicability to commerce problems.
What we're looking for
You must have hands-on experience building, training, and evaluating machine learning models.
You must have a strong foundation in reinforcement learning, deep learning, optimization, causal inference, or operations research.
You must be proficient in Python and standard ML tooling such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
You must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with ambiguous, open-ended problems.
You should have a PhD in Applied Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related field (preferred).
You should have a record of published basic or applied AI research at top-tier conferences or journals (preferred).
You should have experience with agentic or multi-step decision-making systems such as RL agents or LLM-based agents (preferred).
You should have experience applying ML to commerce, marketplaces, recommendation systems, or fraud and bot detection (preferred).
