JOB TITLE: Voice Platform Technical Lead
The Voice Platform team is seeking a Director of Engineering to design, build, and operate a next-generation contact center platform. In this senior, hands-on role, you will provide technical leadership by designing and coding production voice services, establishing engineering standards, and mentoring engineers. You will build programmable voice platforms supporting inbound, outbound, and multi-party interactions while developing reusable APIs and services. Key responsibilities include implementing carrier-grade SIP signaling and media-processing capabilities. You must possess deep expertise in Kamailio and FreeSWITCH, along with proficiency in C, C++, Java, or Go. The role involves solving complex real-time communications challenges, including SIP routing, session control, and transcoding, while ensuring high availability and geographic redundancy for distributed, low-latency, event-driven services in cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
Design and implement carrier-grade SIP signaling and media-processing capabilities using Kamailio and FreeSWITCH.
Write production code for voice services, automation, test frameworks, and operational tooling.
Build reusable voice services and APIs to abstract underlying telephony for other teams.
Optimize Kamailio routing logic for load balancing, failover, authentication, and security controls.
Extend FreeSWITCH applications, including dial plans, modules, and media services.
Design the platform for high availability, geographic redundancy, and horizontal scalability.
Establish observability standards and participate in production incident response for critical voice services.
Provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring senior engineers.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years of software development experience with significant experience in voice, telephony, real-time communications, or programmable communications services.
5+ years of hands-on production experience with FreeSWITCH and Kamailio.
Deep understanding of FreeSWITCH and Kamailio architectures, including SIP-routing configuration and integration with carriers and SBCs.
Expert-level understanding of voice protocols and familiarity with session border controllers and telecommunications security patterns.
Strong software engineering skills in C, C++, Java, or Go to develop distributed, event-driven, real-time, and low-latency services.
Experience deploying and operating voice workloads in Cloud, hybrid-cloud, or geographically distributed environments.
Proven experience mentoring senior engineers and demonstrated ownership of production services, including incident response and root-cause analysis.
