TL;DR · Thermal Design Engineer, Hardware Development Engineer II

As a Thermal Design Engineer at Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC, you will join the Amazon Leo Government team, responsible for providing high-speed satellite broadband services to U.S. and allied government customers. Your primary role involves conducting detailed thermal analysis of spacecraft subsystems and components, supporting architectural trades with preliminary thermal assessments, and driving design optimizations for performance, mass, and cost efficiency. You will also define test setups for thermal cycling and TVAC tests, correlate results with mission operations models, and document design evolution for review gates. Essential skills include proficiency in Thermal Desktop (SINDA), Ansys, or similar tools, experience with analysis simulation software, and a strong background in spacecraft design. This role requires a U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.

What you'll do

  • Conduct detailed thermal analysis of spacecraft bus and payload subsystems.
  • Support architectural trades with preliminary thermal analysis for orbital conditions.
  • Optimize design for performance, mass, cost, and reliability through thermal control hardware options.
  • Define and execute test setups for thermal cycling and TVAC tests at subsystem and vehicle levels.
  • Correlate test results with mission operations models to ensure accuracy and reliability.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience with thermal analysis software like Thermal Desktop or Ansys.
  • Proficient in test planning and execution for spacecraft subsystems and vehicles.
  • Strong background in thermal design optimization for performance, mass, and cost efficiency.
  • Experience in correlating test results with mission operations models and conducting acceptance tests.
  • Capable of writing custom scripts for rapid design trades and iterations using analysis simulation tools.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
