TL;DR · Sub-System Lead Engineer, Electric Power Components

The Sub-System Lead Engineer – Electric Power Components serves as a senior technical individual contributor leading the technical definition, integration, and validation of low-voltage electric power subsystems. You will own the requirements and integration strategy for components including lead-acid batteries, intelligent battery sensors, DC/AC inverters, and generators. Daily responsibilities involve decomposing vehicle needs into testable subsystem requirements, maintaining technical specifications in DOORS/DNG, and developing Model-Based Systems Engineering artifacts. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and manage backlogs in Jira. Required expertise includes automotive communication protocols like CAN, LIN, and GMLAN, as well as experience with 12V and 48V architectures, DFMEA, and validation. This role solves critical integration challenges for electric power interfaces across various vehicle programs.

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain subsystem requirements for lead-acid batteries, sensors, inverters, and generators.
  • Decompose vehicle and system requirements into clear, verifiable, and traceable subsystem requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Model-Based Systems Engineering artifacts to clarify subsystem behavior and interfaces.
  • Partner with suppliers and design engineers to ensure component designs meet electrical and performance intent.
  • Coordinate with validation teams to define test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and test coverage.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for technical issues and drive corrective actions with responsible teams and suppliers.
  • Manage technical work, risks, and dependencies using backlog and issue-tracking tools like Jira.
  • Mentor engineers in requirements quality, systems thinking, and disciplined issue resolution.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, computer, or systems engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least five plus years of experience in automotive engineering, systems engineering, component development, or electrical architecture.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or managing requirements for automotive systems, subsystems, components, or interfaces.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication and diagnostic technologies such as CAN, LIN, GMLAN, serial data, U-services, RIDs, DIDs, or OBD.
  • Experience with DFMEA, subsystem or solution FMEA, supplier DFMEA, DRBFM, design reviews, and validation.
  • Experience with low-voltage vehicle electrical systems, including 12V and/or 48V architectures, power distribution, battery systems, sensing, conversion, or generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical issues from problem definition through root cause, corrective action, validation, and closure.
  • Experience with lead-acid batteries, intelligent battery sensors, DC/AC inverters, generators, or vehicle power-management systems (preferred).
