TL;DR · Staff OS Application Engineer

Staff OS Application Engineer The Staff OS Application Engineer serves as a technical lead and primary interface for customers throughout the product lifecycle, focusing on platform firmware, bring-up, and debug across silicon, firmware, and operating system layers. This role involves performing hands-on debugging of multi-socket and interconnect configuration problems, including issues with DDR and PCIe high-speed interfaces. The engineer acts as a domain authority on Linux kernel and drivers while delivering technical enablement through workshops and documentation. Key responsibilities include leading root cause analysis for complex integration issues and collaborating with internal engineering teams to resolve critical bugs. Required expertise includes OS enablement in firmware via ACPI or Devicetree, Linux boot log analysis, and server platform architecture. The role addresses the challenge of accelerating platform readiness and reducing integration risk for both reference platforms and custom end-customer designs.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers throughout their entire product lifecycle.
  • Act as the domain authority for Linux kernel and driver issues.
  • Perform hands-on debugging across firmware, silicon, and system-level components including multi-socket configurations.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to resolve integration issues involving DDR, PCIe, and other high-speed interfaces.
  • Lead customer issue triage, root cause analysis, and resolution in coordination with internal engineering teams.
  • Deliver technical enablement through workshops, training sessions, and documentation for partners.
  • Feed findings from customer engagements back into internal engineering and product development cycles.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up.
  • Hands-on experience in system bring-up and debug for sophisticated SoC-based platforms.
  • Expertise in OS enablement in firmware including ACPI and Devicetree.
  • Experience with Linux bring-up and debugging, including boot logs, kernel parameters, and early boot diagnostics.
  • Understanding of server platform architecture, including CPU, memory, interconnect, and I/O subsystems.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and DDR from a software perspective.
  • Strong customer-facing social skills to explain intricate technical issues clearly.
  • Experience driving multi-functional collaboration and issue resolution in a global engineering environment.
  • Experience with multi-socket systems and coherency fabrics (preferred).
  • Familiarity with BMC / OpenBMC and system management flows (preferred).
  • Scripting skills such as Python or Bash for debug and automation (preferred).
  • Experience delivering technical training or customer workshops (preferred).
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing engineering role like FAE, AE, or System Integration (preferred).
