Staff Machine Learning Engineer As part of Pinterest Labs, you will join a world-class team of research scientists and machine learning engineers to transform content discovery. You will drive the research, architecture, scale, and production deployment of Generative Recommendation System and Reinforcement Learning solutions. Your daily responsibilities include identifying and scoping novel ML solutions from zero to one, owning long-term research strategies, and translating complex engineering solutions into product impact. You will conduct research at the intersection of recommendation systems, LLMs, VLMs, and reinforcement learning to solve challenges across Ads, Discovery, Growth, and Search. The role requires hands-on experience with large-scale recommendation systems, reinforcement learning applications, and LLM/VLM post-training. You must demonstrate technical leadership by converting ambiguous research problems into production deliverables for the platform.

Drive ambiguous research problems into production deliverables as a technical leader.
Perform research at the intersection of recommendation systems, LLMs, VLMs, and reinforcement learning.

What we're looking for

MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
Minimum 6 years of relevant industry experience.
Hands-on experience with large-scale recommendation systems and reinforcement learning applications.
Experience with LLM/VLM post-training (preferred).
Technical leadership experience driving ambiguous research problems into production deliverables.
Publications at top ML conferences such as KDD, NeurIPS, or RecSys.
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
