The Sr Technical Manager, Space Hardware (Space Optical Systems) leads a high-performing engineering team within L3Harris Space Systems to develop advanced space-based ISR and remote sensing technologies. Lead the design of high-precision spaceflight hardware, including opto-mechanical structures, mechanisms, tooling, and fixtures.
Provide technical leadership across requirements, concept development, design trades, analysis, documentation, integration, and testing.
Guide and mentor engineers while managing resource allocation, process improvements, and strategic planning.
Lead technical reviews and present designs to customers, reviewers, and cross-functional teams.
Support manufacturing and production by providing tooling, fixturing, test equipment, and shop aids.
Contribute to project proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and engineering change activities.
Manage hiring, employee development, performance reviews, and team engagement.
Ensure projects meet customer commitments for cost, schedule, and technical performance.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 12+ years of experience, graduate degree with 10+ years, or 16+ years of related experience without a degree.
Professional experience in mechanical design for aerospace and defense programs.
Professional experience leading engineering functional teams through design, analysis, test, hardware build, delivery, and launch.
Professional experience incorporating thermal or structural modeling and design methods into mechanical design.
Professional experience in 3D computer-aided design tools.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Active security clearance, experience with optical systems, and familiarity with CREO, GD&T, and AS9100 (preferred).
