Sr. RFIC Layout Designer (Starshield Silicon) joins the Starshield team to support advanced development programs for national security applications involving earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. In this role, you will lead the layout discipline at a technical level, collaborating with RFIC and mixed-signal designers on full chip layouts for custom analog and RF designs. Daily responsibilities include determining floor plans, managing power and ground distribution, performing design rule checks, and executing top-level integration including density fill and tape out. You will work with advanced silicon technologies to develop low-power, integrated architectures for space and ground infrastructure. Required skills include experience with advanced nodes like 7nm or 5nm, high-frequency circuits up to 50GHz, and sensitive RF blocks. Technical proficiency in Linux, skill programming, shell scripting, Perl, Python, and revision control systems is required to solve complex integration challenges.

What you'll do

Determine chip floor plans including power distribution strategies and pad locations with packaging engineers.
Estimate layout work schedules and identify complex areas requiring early investigation.
Perform layout of custom RF and analog circuit blocks while minimizing parasitic capacitance and ensuring matching.
Execute design rule checking, electrical rule checking, and layout versus schematic checks to resolve errors.
Manage top-level layout integration including ESD structures, pad assembly, and final tape out processes.
Collaborate with EDA suppliers to test and implement new tools and features.
Create guides and demonstrations to showcase improved layout techniques for the team.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or 8+ years of professional experience in IC layout design.
At least 5 years of professional experience as an IC layout designer.
Strong analog layout skills and experience with advanced node IC layouts (16nm, 7nm, 5nm or below).
Experience designing circuits with frequencies up to 50GHz and sensitive RF blocks like LNAs, VCOs, and mixers.
Proficiency in skill programming and scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
Ability to manage revision control systems and work within a Linux environment.
Understanding of layout considerations for device matching, coupling, and noise isolation.
Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for export control authorizations.
