The Sr. Metrology Engineer provides technical leadership for calibration, instrumentation, and metrology programs at a greenfield biologics manufacturing site. This role involves establishing the site's calibration program from the ground up while managing the full lifecycle of critical instrumentation assets including pressure, temperature, flow, conductivity, pH, level, humidity, and differential pressure systems. The engineer will develop technical standards, manage vendor relationships, oversee commissioning and qualification activities, and lead troubleshooting for process deviations. Key responsibilities include maintaining engineering documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving digital metrology solutions. Required expertise includes experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments, GMP utility systems, and process measurement technologies. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Emerson DeltaV, Building Management Systems, and specialized knowledge of sterile manufacturing, vaccine facilities, and data integrity requirements within a regulated manufacturing framework.
Establish and implement the site-wide calibration and metrology program for a greenfield biologics manufacturing facility.
Manage the full lifecycle of instrumentation assets including selection, commissioning, qualification, maintenance, and obsolescence planning.
Develop technical standards, instrument datasheets, and specifications for new and existing instrumentation assets.
Define process measurement tolerances, instrument accuracy requirements, and critical process parameter monitoring strategies.
Create calibration procedures, tolerances, and frequencies based on risk assessments and regulatory requirements.
Lead troubleshooting efforts for instrumentation failures, process deviations, and calibration-related investigations.
Manage vendor relationships, including performance metrics, contract requirements, and technical governance models.
Maintain engineering documentation such as loop drawings, calibration records, and asset hierarchies to ensure inspection readiness.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
8+ years of metrology, calibration, or instrumentation engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated manufacturing environments.
Expertise in process instrumentation, calibration programs, GMP utility systems, and process measurement technologies.
Experience supporting greenfield projects, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities.
Experience developing calibration programs and vendor management strategies.
Experience supporting biologics, sterile manufacturing, or vaccine facilities (preferred).
Knowledge of GMP regulations, data integrity requirements, and ISPE guidance documents (preferred).
Professional certifications related to metrology or calibration (preferred).
