TL;DR · Staff Metrology Engineer

As a Staff Metrology Engineer at Arsenal-1, you will serve as the primary technical authority for dimensional measurement processes in defense manufacturing. You will stand up the site’s metrology lab by managing equipment selection, layout, environmental controls, and calibration programs while establishing standard practices for the broader manufacturing network. Your daily responsibilities include writing inspection programs, performing measurement system analysis (MSA/Gage R&R), and ensuring GD&T standards meet aerospace requirements. You will also lead the design of inspection gages and manage a growing team of technicians and specialists. Key technical skills required include CMM programming, 3D scanning, laser trackers, and PolyWorks software. This role solves critical quality and precision challenges in high-volume production by integrating metrology early in development to ensure manufacturing accuracy for advanced autonomous systems and weapons.

What you'll do

  • Establish the dimensional metrology lab by selecting equipment, designing layouts, and creating calibration and gage management programs.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for dimensional measurement, including writing inspection programs and performing MSA/Gage R&R.
  • Develop a multi-year metrology roadmap to support production goals and set standards for the broader manufacturing network.
  • Design and manufacture inspection gages, ranging from manual Go/No-Go tools to automated vision and scanning systems.
  • Create comprehensive measurement plans utilizing 3D scanning, CMM, data visualization, and digital-twin technologies.
  • Hire, train, and mentor a team of metrology technicians and specialists while establishing their career development paths.
  • Analyze product quality data to ensure measurement accuracy and consistency across manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering and quality teams on GD&T standards and root cause corrective actions.

What we're looking for

  • Must possess an engineering degree.
  • Requires 10+ years of experience in metrology, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
  • Must have hands-on expertise in CMM programming, FAI, and measurement system analysis (MSA/Gage R&R).
  • Experience is required in standing up or expanding dimensional metrology labs including equipment selection and calibration programs.
  • Must have experience building, leading, and mentoring metrology or manufacturing teams.
  • Requires strong knowledge of aerospace measurement techniques and GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5).
  • Proficiency with CMM software, 3D scanners, and large-volume metrology equipment is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required and the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance is required.
