TL;DR · Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Insource Manufacturing (Starlink)

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer role at the Insource Manufacturing team for Starlink involves designing, building, and qualifying custom equipment and automation systems to enable high-volume production in a state-of-the-art factory. This position requires owning manufacturing subsystems from conceptual design through high-volume production ramp, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and optimizing existing equipment while developing novel solutions. Key responsibilities include performing FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing, designing production equipment, and implementing maintenance strategies to maximize uptime. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or related engineering field, 5+ years of professional experience, proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter, and hands-on experience with manufacturing processes and tools.

What you'll do

  • Own manufacturing subsystems and equipment from conceptual design through high-volume production ramp.
  • Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements with cross-functional teams, and drive system-level optimization.
  • Perform FMEA, reliability modeling, and stress testing to predict and mitigate potential failures.
  • Design and develop production equipment including structures, mechanisms, robot end effectors, and material handling solutions.
  • Monitor and track equipment performance metrics using data analytics; implement preventive maintenance strategies.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials, or other engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of professional experience with mechanical design, analysis, testing, or manufacturing
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (Siemens NX preferred) and Teamcenter
  • Experience with custom machine design including electromechanical systems and end-of-arm tooling
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, and failure modes of complex systems
  • Prior ownership of a complex component or assembly from initial design through production ramp
  • Hands-on experience with mills, lathes, manual and CNC machines
