TL;DR · Lead Mechanical Engineer, Hardware Reliability

Lead Mechanical Engineer, Hardware Reliability (Starlink) leads a team of engineers and specialists focused on hardware reliability and field performance for the Starlink User Terminal Kit, including user terminals, Wi-Fi routers, power supplies, and cables. This role involves developing reliability qualification strategies, managing technical investigations into fleet-wide failures, and overseeing production quality activities to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards. The engineer will design and execute environmental, mechanical, electrical, and RF testing while automating data analysis and reporting using engineering tools. Key responsibilities include performing root cause investigations for phased-array and power supply PCBAs, monitoring hardware telemetry, and identifying manufacturing inefficiencies to improve first-pass yield. The role requires expertise in reliability engineering principles, failure mechanisms, and high-volume manufacturing to minimize customer downtime and ensure product durability across the entire lifecycle from factory to field.

What you'll do

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on hardware reliability and field performance for Starlink products.
  • Manage technical investigations into fleet-wide hardware issues with tight timelines to minimize customer downtime.
  • Develop and execute reliability qualification strategies for new and existing products to ensure readiness for mass production.
  • Design and execute environmental, mechanical, electrical, and RF testing to qualify changes in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Automate reliability test execution, data analysis, and reporting using engineering tools to improve decision-making speed.
  • Identify manufacturing inefficiencies and drive process improvements to increase first-pass yield and reduce scrap.
  • Perform telemetry and log analysis to identify root causes for failed phased-array, Wi-Fi, and power supply components.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 standards and other applicable quality management systems.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace) or another engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience executing complex projects in design qualification, manufacturing, hardware reliability, or production environments.
  • 1+ years of experience leading a team of at least three engineers.
  • Experience developing and executing product qualification or hardware reliability strategies.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles, failure mechanisms, and root cause investigation.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing and transitioning hardware from development into mass production.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
