JOB TITLE: Lead Mechanical Engineer, Hardware Reliability (Starlink)
As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, Hardware Reliability (Starlink), you will lead a team of engineers and specialists focused on hardware reliability and field performance for the Starlink User Terminal Kit, including user terminals, Wi-Fi routers, power supplies, and cables. You will develop reliability qualification strategies, manage technical investigations into fleet-wide performance issues, and oversee production quality activities to minimize hardware failures. Your daily work involves designing and executing environmental, mechanical, electrical, RF, and system-level reliability testing while automating data analysis and reporting. You must ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and identify manufacturing inefficiencies. The role requires expertise in root cause investigation, PCBAs, and Wi-Fi standards to solve hardware reliability problems and improve first-pass yield within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on hardware reliability and field performance for Starlink products.
Develop and execute reliability qualification strategies for new and existing products to maximize field life.
Design and execute environmental, mechanical, electrical, RF, and system-level reliability testing.
Lead root cause investigations for qualification, production, and field failures to drive corrective actions.
Automate reliability test execution, data analysis, and reporting using engineering tools.
Oversee production quality activities including containments, material review boards, and factory compliance.
Identify manufacturing inefficiencies and drive process improvements to increase first-pass yield and reduce scrap.
Monitor hardware telemetry and field metrics to identify and investigate product reliability shortcomings.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace engineering, or another engineering discipline.
2+ years of experience executing complex engineering projects in design qualification, manufacturing, hardware reliability, reliability test, or a production environment.
1+ years of experience in a leadership position leading a team of 3+ engineers.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee eligible for Department of State authorization.
Must be willing to relocate to Bastrop, TX and travel up to 30% for work.
Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace engineering, or a related engineering discipline (preferred).
Experience developing and executing product qualification or hardware reliability strategies (preferred).
Experience with PCB, PCBA, electromechanical assemblies, and complex hardware systems (preferred).
