Sr Mechanical Design Engineer As a Sr Mechanical Design Engineer within the Cranial & Spinal Technologies business, you will provide technical leadership in the design, development, verification, and validation of mechanical and electromechanical medical device products and systems. Your daily work involves researching, designing, and evaluating solutions involving materials, mechanisms, instruments, controls, plastics, metals, and electromechanical assemblies. You will perform critical analyses including tolerance analysis, DFMA, DFMEA, and finite element analysis using tools like ANSYS. The role requires proficiency in 3D modeling with SolidWorks or Creo, as well as expertise in GD&T and technical documentation. This position addresses complex surgical challenges by developing technologies for spinal, cranial, and navigation-enabled procedures to improve patient outcomes in the neuroscience field.

What you'll do

  • Research, design, develop, verify, and validate mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex manufacturing and system-level technical challenges.
  • Evaluate engineering solutions involving materials, mechanisms, instruments, controls, plastics, metals, and assemblies.
  • Perform engineering analyses including tolerance analysis, DFMA, DFMEA, and structural or finite element analysis.
  • Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using GD&T practices.
  • Serve as the technical representative for Mechanical Engineering on project teams to provide risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers while coordinating project activities and deliverables.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (preferably Mechanical Engineering) and 4+ years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree in STEM (preferably Mechanical Engineering) and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D modeling and engineering drawing tools.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, risk analysis, design controls, and design verification and validation processes.
  • Demonstrated experience independently solving complex technical problems and developing engineering recommendations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supplier teams in a regulated product development environment.
  • Experience within the medical device industry and knowledge of FDA QSR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, and IEC 62304 (preferred).
  • Experience with SolidWorks and/or Creo for 3D modeling and product design (preferred).
  • Work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
