As a Sr Lead Software Engineer - Python - Front Office, you will join the Commercial & Investment Bank team to improve how the index business operates. You will partner with Quantitative Research, Structuring, Trading, Sales, and Middle Office teams to deliver high-quality production code in a fast-paced environment. Your daily responsibilities include owning projects within a global program, collaborating with other technology teams, and driving the adoption of approved AI-assisted engineering practices for code review, refactoring, and test acceleration. You will work on the Athena platform, a cross-market risk management and trading system. The role requires expertise in Python and TypeScript, along with experience in object-oriented or functional programming. You will be responsible for ensuring secure coding standards, managing AI-assisted development tools, and navigating complex financial domains like market risk and portfolio analytics.
Own and deliver specific projects within the global program of work.
Develop secure, high-quality production code in Python or TypeScript for risk management and trading systems.
Review and debug code written by other team members to ensure quality and performance.
Drive the adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams.
Establish measurable validation standards for AI-generated outputs regarding security, correctness, and performance.
Implement automation capabilities within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve delivery speed.
Influence design decisions and architectural improvements across the platform as new capabilities are integrated.
Serve as a subject matter expert to advise on technical requirements and business process integration.
What we're looking for
Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Experience in performant, large-scale system development in an object-oriented or functional programming language like Python, Java, C++, or C#.
Willingness to become proficient and develop in Python if not already a primary language.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools for coding, review, testing, and troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity and secure handling of inputs/outputs.
Experience coaching senior engineers or leads on compliant usage patterns and controls for AI tools.
Good understanding of Agile development methodologies and the full software development life cycle.
Experience in finance or investment banking (Market Risk, P&L, or financial modeling) is preferred.
