As a Sr Engineer - AI Platforms - Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you will join a team dedicated to accelerating the adoption of enterprise AI platforms by partnering directly with engineering and product teams. You will solve complex, high-value AI problems by designing, building, and productionizing AI-powered applications and experiences. Your daily work involves developing production-grade solutions using generative AI, LLMs, agentic architectures, retrieval patterns, and model APIs. You will translate ambiguous business requirements into concrete technical designs, managing the full lifecycle from prototyping to deployment and observability. Key skills include proficiency in modern programming languages, distributed systems, cloud-native development, and CI/CD. You will identify recurring technical challenges to create reusable components, APIs, SDKs, and frameworks that improve the broader AI builder experience.
Design, build, and productionize AI-powered applications using Target's enterprise AI platform.
Develop production-grade solutions using generative AI, LLMs, agentic architectures, and retrieval patterns.
Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete technical designs and working software.
Lead the full engineering lifecycle from rapid prototyping and exploration to deployment and production operations.
Identify recurring technical challenges to create reusable APIs, SDKs, frameworks, and reference architectures.
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and models through research and proof-of-concept activities.
Diagnose complex production issues and develop solutions to prevent repeat occurrences.

What we're looking for
A 4-year degree or equivalent experience is required.
5+ years of software development experience with strong hands-on engineering and programming skills is required.
Experience designing, building, testing, deploying, and operating production-grade applications, services, or distributed systems is required.
Experience building AI-enabled applications using LLMs, model APIs, agentic frameworks, or retrieval patterns is required.
Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and modern engineering frameworks is required.
Experience designing and consuming APIs, SDKs, libraries, frameworks, or platform capabilities is required.
Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, scalability, reliability, performance, security, and production operations is required.
Experience with cloud-native development, containers, orchestration, CI/CD, observability, testing, debugging, and operational monitoring is required.
