The Sr Director, AI Engineering joins the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team to lead the development of responsible and reliable AI systems. This role involves overseeing the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability. You will make high-judgment build-vs-buy decisions using technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch. Key responsibilities include inventing LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput for production systems. The role requires deep expertise in engineering and mathematics to solve complex problems in banking, specifically creating scalable, high-performance AI infrastructure and proprietary solutions that deliver value to millions of customers.
Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
Make high-judgment build-vs-buy decisions regarding open-source and SaaS AI technologies like AWS Ultraclusters and VectorDBs.
Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve performance, scalability, cost, and latency of production systems.
Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
Attract, retain, and nurture the professional development of top AI engineering talent.
Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that improve associate workflows and customer interactions.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 10 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
At least 5 years of people leadership experience.
7 years of experience managing and leading an engineering team (preferred).
8 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (preferred).
Experience developing AI and ML algorithms using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang (preferred).
Passion for staying abreast of the latest AI research and judiciously applying novel techniques in production (preferred).
Excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate complex AI concepts to peers (preferred).
