The Sr. Lead AI Engineer (AI Foundations) joins the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences team to build and deploy proprietary AI solutions central to the business. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and supporting AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability. You will partner with cross-functional teams to invent state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput for production systems. The technical stack includes AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch, with required proficiency in Python, Go, Scala, or Java. This position solves the technical challenge of creating responsible, scalable, and high-performance AI infrastructure to power real-time, personalized customer experiences and internal tools.
Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
Implement similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability systems.
Utilize a tech stack including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch.
Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput.
Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
Apply novel techniques from scientific publications to production environments.
Lead and mentor an engineering team while influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 6 years of AI/ML experience.
Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus 4 years of AI/ML experience.
At least 6 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
7 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (preferred).
Experience designing, developing, integrating, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems (preferred).
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor an engineering team and influence cross-functional stakeholders (preferred).
Experience developing AI/ML algorithms like LLM Inference, Similarity Search, and VectorDBs using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang (preferred).
Experience applying state-of-the-art techniques for optimizing training and inference software to improve hardware utilization, latency, throughput, and cost (preferred).
