Specialist, Mechanical Engineer Design is a specialist-level role focused on the component and system design of solid propulsion systems used in solid rocket motors and controllable solid systems. Working with minimal direction, you will lead the design of critical components including hot gas thrusters, insulation systems, manifolds, ignition systems, pressure vessels, and test hardware. Your daily responsibilities involve developing design concepts, creating 3D models, producing detailed manufacturing drawings, conducting trade studies, and performing risk reduction activities like subscale testing. You will collaborate within an Integrated Product Team to resolve nonconforming hardware and manage configuration changes. The role requires proficiency in CREO CAD software, Windchill PLM systems, and ASME Y14.5 standards. This position addresses technical challenges in the aerospace and defense sector, specifically regarding propulsion for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic systems.
Lead component and system design for solid propulsion systems including hot gas thrusters, insulation, and pressure vessels.
Develop design concepts, 3D models, and detailed manufacturing drawings for rocket motor components.
Conduct trade studies to establish component specifications and technical procedures.
Participate in shop floor activities to address nonconforming hardware and support production planning.
Manage engineering drawing updates and documentation during configuration change boards.
Develop test plans and technical reviews for risk reduction and environmental testing.
Prepare technical reports for tolerance studies, engineering analyses, and failure investigations.
Create and deliver technical presentations for internal stakeholders and external customers.
What we're looking for
Must be able to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance.
Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of Mechanical Design experience; Graduate Degree and 4 years of experience; or 10 years of experience without a degree.
Experience with CAD software tools (CREO) and PLM Systems (Windchill) is preferred.
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 is preferred.
Experience with Solid Rocket Motors (SRM) is preferred.
Knowledge of solid propulsion systems design and manufacturing methods is preferred.
An active US Secret Security Clearance is desired.
