Specialist, Mechanical Drafter serves as a key technical contributor within the Mechanical Engineering Department at L3Harris Missile Solutions. This role involves supporting the design and development of mission-critical missile components and assemblies while providing production support initiatives. The individual will translate complex design concepts into accurate, manufacturable engineering documentation that meets stringent military and industry standards. Daily responsibilities include creating detailed piece part, assembly, and installation drawings using Solid Edge CAD software, managing design trees and Bills of Materials within a Product Data Management system, and processing Engineering Change Orders. The role requires proficiency in 3D CAD tools, PDM or PLM systems, and advanced knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards. This position addresses the technical challenge of developing high-performance missile defense technologies while ensuring compliance with military specifications and manufacturing processes like CNC machining and welding.
Create detailed mechanical engineering drawings for missile components and assemblies using Solid Edge CAD software.
Apply ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards to all technical documentation.
Manage design trees and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the Product Data Management system.
Process and incorporate Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) into existing designs.
Review engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with military specifications.
Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams regarding drafting standards.
Support prototype development and testing activities through accurate documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
What we're looking for
Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret security clearance.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field with 4 years of experience, a Graduate Degree with 2 years of experience, or 8 years of experience without a degree.
Experience in defense, aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or other highly regulated industries.
Demonstrated experience creating complex mechanical drawings for manufacturing and managing engineering change processes.
Proficiency with three-dimensional (3D) CAD software and Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Expert proficiency in Solid Edge CAD software (version 2020 or higher) with 4+ years of hands-on experience (preferred).
Advanced knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T principles with professional certification (preferred).
