Solutions Architect

What you'll do

• Define domain-focused solutions that align with enterprise strategies and technical standards across the commercial space.
• Translate business goals into scalable system designs for initiatives like Southwest Vacations and Assigned Seats.
• Evaluate build versus buy decisions, integration complexity, and technical risks to ensure sustainable outcomes.
• Establish technical roadmaps for business domains to enable long-term business results.
• Act as a trusted advisor to define business intent and non-functional requirements for stakeholders.
• Research emerging technologies to accelerate business value delivery and improve technical competency.
• Design, build, refactor, or operate distributed large-scale IT projects in cloud or on-premises environments.
• Mentor and coach team members to contribute to the growth of internal technology teams.

What we're looking for

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent advanced experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States.
• Expert-level experience and expansive knowledge in architecture design and implementation of large scale distributed systems are required.
• Knowledge of a modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript, Go, .Net, or Java is required.
• Knowledge of technologies including Cloud, APIs, Event Streams, DevOps, Serverless, Big Data, and Analytics is required.
• Proficiency in Architecture Design Tools (e.g., Draw.io, Visio), software programming paradigms, and versioning tools like Git is required.
• Experience in the airline/travel industry, reservation systems, or commerce domains is preferred.
