As a Software Engineering Technical Lead, Apple Pay — Wallet, Payments & Commerce (WPC), you will join the team responsible for developing software for payments, transit, and digital keys. You will solve complex problems regarding consistency, latency, and throughput to ensure reliable performance for global payment and commerce services.

What you'll do

Architect and maintain mission-critical distributed systems with resilience, failover, and self-healing capabilities at scale.
Design and operate high-volume REST and gRPC services for server-to-server and mobile client use cases.
Lead complex projects from initial conception through production deployment.
Drive technical discussions and define engineering strategy across various teams and disciplines.
Write technical specifications and produce documentation to gain consensus on complex concepts.
Mentor peers and perform code reviews to ensure high standards of engineering excellence.
Manage monitoring, observability strategies, and provide on-call support for deployed software.

What we're looking for

Extensive experience architecting, building, and maintaining mission-critical distributed systems at large scale.
Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals including consistency, latency, and throughput trade-offs.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in both verbal and written formats to diverse audiences.
Proven track record of leading complex projects from conception through production deployment.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain long-term relationships and technical influence across team boundaries.
Hands-on software development expertise with Java or Kotlin and Spring (preferred).
Experience with high-volume REST/gRPC services, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud-native applications (preferred).
Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability tools like Prometheus or Grafana (preferred).
