This role involves leading the architecture, design, and maintenance of mission-critical distributed systems at a global scale. You will design and operate high-volume REST and gRPC services for server-to-server and mobile client-facing use cases. Key responsibilities include writing technical specifications, mentoring peers, reviewing code, and providing on-call support. You will utilize Java, Kotlin, Spring, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS to build cloud-native applications. The role requires expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry to ensure system resilience, failover, and self-healing capabilities.

What you'll do

  • Architect, build, and maintain mission-critical distributed systems with resilience and self-healing principles.
  • Design and operate high-volume REST and gRPC services for server-to-server and mobile client use cases.
  • Lead complex projects end-to-end from initial conception through production deployment.
  • Write technical specifications and produce impactful documentation to drive consensus on complex concepts.
  • Mentor peers and perform code reviews to uphold engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide on-call support and develop monitoring and observability strategies for production software.
  • Drive technical discussions and define engineering strategy across various teams and disciplines.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience architecting, building, and maintaining mission-critical distributed systems at large scale.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including trade-offs in consistency, latency, and throughput.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully to drive consensus on complex technical concepts with diverse audiences.
  • Track record of building long-term relationships and exercising technical influence within and beyond team boundaries.
  • Tenacity and perseverance to lead complex projects from conception through production deployment.
  • Deep hands-on software development expertise with Java or Kotlin and Spring (preferred).
  • Proven experience with high-volume REST and/or gRPC services for server-to-server or mobile client-facing use cases (preferred).
  • Experience with containerization, orchestration, cloud-native applications, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools (preferred).
