The Software Engineering LMTS joins the Core Database Internals team to architect, develop, and test the next generation of cloud-native database technologies. This role involves end-to-end ownership of mission-critical systems at petabyte scale, where you will design and develop core distributed database functionality. Day-to-day responsibilities include solving complex scalability problems, generating performance improvements, implementing functional and system tests, and conducting root cause analysis for defects. You will work on specific areas such as logging, recovery, distributed lock management, transactions, networking, replication, and high availability. The role requires deep expertise in distributed computing, including consensus and transactional protocols, alongside low-level operating system concepts like multi-threading and memory management. Candidates must demonstrate strong programming skills in Java or C to support these highly concurrent, resilient systems.

What you'll do

Design and develop core functionality for distributed database systems.
Create new architectures and designs to solve complex scalability problems.
Generate ideas to improve system robustness and performance.
Implement comprehensive functional and system tests to ensure database quality.
Debug issues, conduct root cause analysis, and diagnose software defects.
Participate actively in the release and deployment process.
Provide end-to-end ownership of architecture, monitoring, and product support for mission-critical systems.

What we're looking for

BS or higher degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems (preferred).
6+ years of experience in systems or database internals programming.
6+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems.
Deep expertise in distributed computing, including system architecture, communication, distributed consensus, and transactional protocols.
Strong understanding of low-level operating system concepts like multi-threading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and scale.
Strong Java or C programming skills.
Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
