TL;DR · Software Development Engineer - Rust, Compilers, and GPU Systems

Software Development Engineer - Rust, Compilers, and GPU Systems will join the team developing next-generation systems software for AMD GPUs using Rust as a core technical direction. This role involves building production-quality Rust components for low-level, performance-sensitive GPU systems, including compilers, runtimes, firmware, and developer tooling. The engineer will design compiler pipelines involving rustc, MIR, MLIR, and LLVM IR while developing target-specific code generation for GPU execution models. Key responsibilities include defining typed interfaces across hardware boundaries, implementing no std Rust components, and ensuring memory safety and concurrency correctness. The role requires expertise in Rust, C/C++, and production compiler infrastructure like LLVM or GCC. The work addresses the challenge of integrating high-trust software with complex hardware-software co-design, focusing on improving the safety and reliability of GPU stack components through advanced program analysis and formal methods.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement production-quality Rust components for low-level and performance-sensitive GPU systems.
  • Integrate Rust as a first-class language across the GPU stack, including toolchain integration and coding standards.
  • Develop compiler pipelines using rustc, MIR, MLIR dialects, LLVM IR, and AMDGPU code generation.
  • Build analyses, transformations, and target-specific lowering for GPU execution models and memory spaces.
  • Define typed and auditable interfaces across compiler, host runtime, device code, firmware, and hardware boundaries.
  • Develop bare-metal and no_std Rust components for systems requiring predictable hardware effects and bounded behavior.
  • Implement validation methods including fuzzing, property-based testing, and formal methods to ensure system correctness.
  • Author design documents and lead technical reviews to communicate complex compiler and hardware behaviors.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong production Rust experience including ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, concurrency, and FFI.
  • Experience with low-level or constrained Rust, such as no std, embedded systems, firmware, or custom targets.
  • Strong C or C++ systems programming skills for working across mixed-language codebases.
  • Experience with rustc internals, MIR, procedural macros, or other Rust toolchain infrastructure.
  • Experience with production compiler frameworks including LLVM, MLIR, GCC, or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of GPU execution models, hardware-software co-design, and related architectures like AMDGPU, RDNA, or CDNA.
  • Experience with program analysis, formal methods, or high-assurance systems development.
