TL;DR · Principal Compiler Software Development Engineer, AI/ML

The Principal Compiler Software Development Engineer - AI/ML joins the AI Software organization to drive compiler and performance optimizations for state-of-the-art AI training and inference workloads on AMD GPU platforms. This role involves designing and optimizing compiler transformations and operator lowerings within MLIR, LLVM, and the ROCm software stack while implementing ONNX operators and microbenchmark test suites. The engineer will develop scalable solutions to improve portability across GPU architectures and perform graph-level, kernel-level, and runtime-level optimizations. Key technical requirements include proficiency in C++, experience with GPU programming technologies like HIP, CUDA, or Triton, and knowledge of MLIR and LLVM infrastructures. The role focuses on solving complex optimization challenges for large-scale AI models by analyzing execution characteristics to improve compute efficiency, memory utilization, and communication overhead across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.

What you'll do

  • Design and optimize compiler transformations and operator lowerings within MLIR, LLVM, and the ROCm stack.
  • Develop scalable solutions to improve portability and performance across various AMD GPU architectures.
  • Implement, validate, and maintain ONNX operators and microbenchmark test suites.
  • Lead performance optimization for AI training, fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and inference workloads on GPUs.
  • Design and implement graph-level, kernel-level, and runtime-level optimizations to achieve measurable performance gains.
  • Analyze workload execution to improve compute efficiency, memory utilization, and communication overhead.
  • Drive performance characterization and benchmarking across both pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented software development.
  • Experience with GPU programming technologies such as HIP, CUDA, Triton, or equivalent parallel frameworks.
  • Experience with compiler infrastructures including MLIR and LLVM.
  • Understanding of machine learning frameworks, model execution pipelines, and AI workload optimization.
  • Experience profiling and optimizing performance-critical software systems.
  • Proficiency with Linux development environments, Git source control, and performance profilers.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
