The Senior Specialist, Optical Engineering joins the Fort Wayne engineering team to provide critical support for aerospace programs. This role focuses on the practical aspects of optical engineering, specifically involving hands-on lab work, precise optical alignment, and meticulous inspection processes for imaging systems spanning the UV to LWIR regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The successful candidate will conduct thorough testing, perform receiving and cleaning of components, and support optical design and modeling efforts. Key technical requirements include experience with Zemax and Code V software, with preferred skills in MATLAB, FRED for stray light analysis, metalens design, and generative AI implementation. The position requires troubleshooting system requirements, participating in trade studies, and collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure the integrity and performance of sophisticated optical systems.
Conduct thorough testing and alignment of complex optical systems within a lab environment.
Perform detailed receiving, cleaning, and inspection of optical components to maintain system integrity.
Engage in troubleshooting activities and verification of system requirements to ensure compliance and functionality.
Support optical design and modeling efforts with a focus on hands-on application and testing.
Participate in systems trade studies and vendor assessments using practical evaluation and lab-based experimentation.
Document processes and convey technical information through clear written and verbal communication.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen to meet security clearance eligibility.
Must be able to obtain a US DoD Secret security clearance.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Minimum of 10 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
4 years of experience in hands-on optical alignment, testing, and inspection, preferably with remote sensing infrared and visible space-qualified systems.
Experience with Zemax and/or Code V optical software for design and analysis purposes.
Experience with MATLAB, FRED, metalens design, or generative AI for optical systems (preferred).
