JOB TITLE: Senior Specialist, Electrical Engineering - FPGA Engineer The Senior Specialist, FPGA Engineer joins the Airborne Solutions team to develop, simulate, and integrate specialized firmware designs for flight avionics systems. This role involves decomposing system requirements into FPGA specifications, architecting digital solutions, and leading a small team of engineers through coding, simulation, and circuit card design support. Key responsibilities include managing the full life cycle development of VHDL into various FPGA families, performing bench-level system integration, and ensuring firmware development processes remain consistent. The position requires proficiency in VHDL, Altera or Xilinx architectures, and high-speed serial protocols like PCI Express, SRIO, and Ethernet. Candidates must also utilize version control tools such as Subversion or Git while solving complex technical problems related to network protocols, SoC designs, and transaction-based models.

What you'll do

Decompose and allocate system and box-level requirements to specific FPGA specifications.
Architect and implement digital solutions on FPGA platforms to meet functional requirements.
Lead the full life cycle development and integration of VHDL into various FPGA families.
Perform formal test and lab verification of functional systems on circuit card assemblies.
Lead teams of engineers through coding, simulation, code analysis, and circuit card design support.
Map FPGA simulation work products to system-level requirements and capabilities.
Support proposal efforts and early program stages to define detailed system requirements.
Provide mentoring to junior engineers and enforce consistent firmware development processes.

What we're looking for

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Minimum of 10 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
Ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance.
Experience coding in VHDL and modeling algorithms, simulating and integrating multiple FPGA-based modules.
Experience with and understanding of Altera or Xilinx FPGA architectures (preferred).
Experience with high-speed serial protocols (PCI Express, SRIO, Ethernet) (preferred).
U.S. citizens.
