Senior Product Manager, VS Code

What you'll do

• Define vision, strategy, and measurable outcomes for major product areas based on developer needs and emerging technologies.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of cohesive product experiences across VS Code and GitHub in partnership with engineering and design teams.
• Build developer empathy by writing and debugging code while testing extensions and prototypes.
• Analyze technical and architectural tradeoffs with engineers based on direct experience using AI coding tools.
• Use quantitative and qualitative data to run experiments and make investment decisions for performance and growth.
• Lead ambiguous, cross-team initiatives by creating clarity and aligning stakeholders across the organization.
• Engage with the open-source community and extension ecosystem to establish rapid feedback loops.
• Represent VS Code externally through blogs, videos, and conferences to communicate product strengths and industry trends.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in product/service/program management or software development (or equivalent experience).
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background checks.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience using Visual Studio Code (preferred).
• Regular hands-on use of AI-powered coding tools (preferred).
• Experience defining product strategy and shipping complex products with engineering, design, and data science partners (preferred).
• Experience leading ambiguous initiatives across multiple teams or organizations and aligning stakeholders (preferred).
• Experience shipping features for AI developer tools like code assistants or agentic coding tools (preferred).
• Familiarity with agentic coding workflows such as multi-step generation, autonomous debugging, and code review (preferred).
