As a Senior OS Software Engineer, Field Engagement & Analytics, you will join the SWE Data Analytics organization to develop critical on-device software powering data collection services across macOS, iOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS. You will take ownership of the tools, daemons, and frameworks that form the foundation of the data pipeline, focusing on collecting, storing, and analyzing diagnostics and usage data while prioritizing user privacy. The role requires expert-level proficiency in C++, Objective-C, or Swift, alongside a deep understanding of operating system fundamentals like process management, memory management, and concurrent programming. You will also utilize Gen AI coding tools to assist in design and debugging. This position addresses the technical challenge of building robust telemetry and observability systems that provide insights into product reliability and performance across millions of devices worldwide.
Develop and ship tools, daemons, and frameworks for the core data pipeline across all Apple platforms.
Build embedded systems software focused on collecting and storing diagnostics and usage data from devices.
Implement privacy-preserving data collection techniques and security best practices for global data pipelines.
Optimize system performance under constrained environments including memory, CPU, battery, and network limitations.
Drive technical decisions regarding the company's overall data collection strategy.
Design and build OS-level software that meets specific platform constraints and requirements.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the engineering organization.
What we're looking for
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
5 years of experience in software development.
Understanding of operating systems fundamentals including process management, memory management, IPC, concurrent programming, and synchronization primitives.
Understanding of privacy-preserving data collection techniques and security best practices.
Expert level experience with C++, Objective-C, or Swift and related development tools.
Familiarity with Gen AI coding tools for design, code generation, and debugging.
Experience in designing and building OS level software with its constraints (preferred).
Experience with telemetry, analytics, observability systems, or performance optimization under constrained environments (preferred).
